The Wonder Girls didn’t make a big of a splash as intended. The movie came out about three to four weeks ago and has been online for viewing but I haven’t heard any reviews or excitement about it from blogs or online forums that I usually visit. I guess it wasn’t that good. I’d compare it to High School Musical with all the drama but at least the entertainment and performances are better. They also have been gearing up to release their album fully on Spotify and it is available now on iTunes. Go check that out here.
However, Girls’ Generation has made somewhat of a bigger impact! The nine-girl group recently released their debut album in America and it’s gotten very good ratings thus far (4.5/5 stars)on iTunes. You can buy their album here but be mindful the part that is in English are (unfortunately) all of the remixes of “The Boys” single. They do feature some names like Snoop Dogg and Teddy Riley. In fact, Teddy Riley is the one who helped create “The Boys” and assist with their debut in America. If you just want to buy the maxi single of “The Boys”, you can buy that one here.
The Wall Street Journal, which is definitely not known for its K-Pop coverage, also had a video segment on whether the girls could make their presence known in America’s music market:

Another part to their success is that they made their network television debut on one of America’s most coveted television spots: The Late Show with David Letterman! The scene started out with a focus on Regis Philbin and Bill Murray and awkward inclusion of Sunny as she was in her ready position. While the stage was pretty small, the girls were still able to execute their choreography without much trouble.
Their morning television debut the next day took place on LIVE! with Kelly with guest Howie Mandel. The girls had a bigger stage to strut their stuff and had some time for a small interview and to teach the hosts some of their choreography. Kelly Ripa remarked, “I’ve never seen such audience participation in my life. Congratulations!” Howie Mandel later realized his mistake in complimenting Tiffany’s English (both Tiffany and Jessica were born in California) but had a fun joke about it.
Congratulations Girls’ Generation and good luck with your upcoming “The Boys” promotions in America! And like David Letterman announced, “Look everybody! The girls are here!”
